— Just 30 minutes from central Tokyo
A new international terminal and runway at Haneda Airport (Tokyo International Airport) will begin operation October 21, 2010. The expansion increases Haneda’s capacity to handle long-haul international flights during low traffic hours. Three US carriers (American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines), and two Japanese (Japan Airlines, All Nippon Airways), will serve non-stop flights from San Francisco, Los Angels, Detroit, Honolulu and New York's JFK.
The innovative 5-story terminal building has floor to ceiling windows, a rooftop observation deck, and an Old Tokyo-styled shopping arcade, complete with cafes, top ramen restaurants, a planetarium, and more. Relaxation facilities such as showers and nap rooms facilitate the terminal’s 24/7 operation.Taxi companies are resetting to a lower flat rate at approximately $68 to major destinations in the city center. A Tokyo Monorail station is located on the lower level of the new terminal, and it takes only 13 minutes by train to get to the Yamanote Line, Tokyo’s main loop.
Flights to Haneda Airport will expedite connections to domestic flights for those who travel beyond Tokyo. As Japan’s largest domestic aviation hub, flying into Haneda makes it much easier to connect to domestic flights.
